NIGHT OF DREAD 2010

The Night of Dread happened last night. Organized by Toronto’s Clay & Paper Theatre, the annual event, now in its 11th year, is designed to bring together the community in a pre-Halloween march around the city streets, complete with bands, hand-made costumes and masks. Each year a different fear is mocked. Appropriately enough, this year’s fear was environmental disaster.

Rue Morgue Magazine‘s Festival of Fear, headlined by David Cronenberg, is over again for another year (boo!), and we were there, meeting fellow horror peeps at the Rue Morgue booth, getting hammered at the parties and taking photos of all of it. Here’s proof of Friday’s debauchery:

Director Tom Six’s controversial film “The Human Centipede” has gained more than its fair share of mainstream attention for its wild/disgusting concept (read that title again), so much so that there is now a porn parody in production. “The Human Sexipede” stars Sunny Lane, Amber Rayne, Keni Styles and Danica Dillan, and is directed by Lee Roy Myers. Oh my.

GRAVEN IMAGES: NEW STILLS FROM “LET ME IN”

Posted in Movies, News, Photo gallery, Vampires with tags , , , , , , , on August 4, 2010 by darklordbunnykins

Abby (Chloe Moretz) stars in Overture Films' "Let Me In".

Let Me In, Hammer Films’ American English-language remake of the Swedish vampire film Let The Right One, coming out Oct. 1, has convinced me. I’m officially looking forward to it now. Director Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is obviously mindful of the original but seems to be going his own way with his version so much respect.

Overture has just released two stills from the movie. The one above features actress Chloe Moretz (a.k.a. Hit Girl from Kick Ass) as Abby, the vampire in question, while the one below features Abby talking to Owen (Kodi Smith-McPhee, that amazing kid from The Road).

Keep an open mind about this when it comes out in October. Check out the trailer in the meantime:

We’re not sure yet about the “horror” or “dark culture” content of Trent Reznor’s new band, How To Destroy Angels, but The DLB is a diehard Nine Inch Nails fans so anything the master touches is worthy of coverage.

To that end, please welcome the first close-up band promo pic, by long-time Reznor collaborator Rob Sheridan:

Posted in Art, Clothing, Photo gallery with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 15, 2010 by darklordbunnykins

The DLB spent part of his afternoon thumbing the threads at the twice-yearly Clothing Show (formerly the Old Clothing Show) down at the Better Living Centre on the CNE grounds in Toronto. (The show returns Sept. 25 – 27.) New designers mixed with vendors of vintage, and lovers of fiendish fashion have a number of choices, including…

Jen from Sick On Sin

Sick On Sin undies

I discovered Sick On Sin five years ago (at The Clothing Show) and love their cutesy monster T-shirts. Jen (pictured above) also sells ladies undies and baby onesies which are almost worth the price of reproduction in and of themselves. Go to http://www.sickonsin.com for all the deets.

Local designers BBJ specialize in pop-culture accessories like rings and broaches. We loved their Bettie Page candles (pictured above). Be sure to party with the ladies this coming Thursday, May 20, at their 10th birthday party, to be held at Buddies In Bad Times (12 Alexander St.). It runs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Play Dead Cult

Rock star faves Play Dead Cult (www.playdeadcult.com) represented with a great selection of undead threads for boys and grrls. Check out their store/play space, Playdead Mansion, at 1233 Rear Queen Street West, open Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Entrance on Gwynne Ave.

Elise from FuturState

Cybergoth was represented by the Futurstate booth. They sell at Borderline in Toronto, or via their website, http://www.futurstate.com.

Dana from Culturshoc

In their own words: “culturshoc combines art, fashion, literature, music, culture and community. we are open tuesday-friday 12pm-8pm, saturday-sunday 10am-6pm.We are located at 1205 queen street west, toronto.” Well done and good luck!
