DRIVE ANGRY

Starring Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner

Directed by Patrick Lussier

Written by Todd Farmer

You don’t see many studio movies that are as balls-out as Drive Angry. That’s probably because director Patrick Lussier and writer Todd Farmer – the team responsible for My Bloody Valentine 3D and the upcoming Hellraiser re-do – shot it outside the studio system. (Maple Pictures picked it up for Canada.) Which means that there’s more cussin’, boobs, awesome gun fights and Satanic sacrifice than you normally see in a Nic Cage film.

Toronto theatregoers with a taste for the macabre and the comical got a special treat last night when Eric Woolfe of Eldritch Theatre previewed his latest work, Doc Wuthergloom’s Haunted Medicine Show. Currently staged as a one-man show, Doc Wuthergloom is Eldritch’s follow-up to last fall’s Madhouse Variations and casts the actor-puppeteer as a traveling exorcist whose tales of the macabre are all in the service of selling you a spellbook to protect you from malevolent spirits.

Former Marilyn Manson/KMFDM collaborator Tim Skold has announced further details about his upcoming solo album. Anomie will be released May 10 through Metropolis Records. From the press release: “Sometimes I wonder if I’ve been preparing my whole life for this album. I’m curious if people will actually ‘get it’,” so says SKOLD‘s influential musical mastermind Tim Skold about ANOMIE, his first album in 15 years. “It really is completely self indulgent wankery, but that goes for just about every record I’ve ever liked. I don’t want people to expect anything from me, I promise only to remain defiantly and completely untrustworthy.”

The album’s first single “SUCK” will be released as an 8-track EP on April 10 and will include remixes from 16volt, Front Line Assembly, Combichrist and Bitteren Ende and three new non-album tracks “I Will Not Forget”, “Bullets Ricochet” and “A Dark Star.”

EYES OF THE MOTHMAN

Written and directed by Matthew J. Pellowski

Red Line Studios

One of the strangest stories in the realm of the paranormal is that of the Mothman. For the uninitiated, the Mothman was a winged, man-shaped creature which was reported multiple times in and around Point Pleasant, West Virginia, through late 1966 and early 1967. Other strange happenings surrounded the Mothman happening, including sightings of UFOs, men in black and aliens… mostly by reliable, God-fearing locals. Was the Mothman an alien? A mutated crane? Or did everyone simply lie? And was that even possible?

CINEMACABRE TO SHOW “CROPSEY” DOC TONIGHT IN TORONTO!

Posted in History, Movies, News, Rue Morgue, Serial Killers with tags , , , on February 17, 2011 by darklordbunnykins

Tonight (Feb. 17) at 9:30 pm EST Rue Morgue Magazine presents a screening of the documentary Cropsey as part of its monthly Cinemacabre night at The Bloor Cinema.

The film, by co-directors Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio, traces the urban legend of Cropsey, supposedly an escaped mental patient responsible for the deaths of several mentally challenged children in Staten Island, New York. Zeman and Brancaccio focus on the arrest and prosecution of Andre Rand, a creepy drifter who was said to have killed Jennifer Schweiger, a child with Down’s Syndrome, in 1987. Other deaths lead officials to try to pin them on Rand, but did he do it?

Rue Morgue will be conducting an interview with Zeman via Skype after the film.

For more information, on the film visit the Cropsey Website.

I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE (1978)

Starring Camille Keaton, Eron Tabor and Richard Pace

Written and directed by Meir Zarchi

Anchor Bay Entertainment

Is I Spit on Your Grave misogynist trash or feminist horror? That question has been asked ever since director Meir Zarchi put out Day of the Woman back in 1978. You likely know it by its more outrageous title, which distributors used when they re-released Day in 1980, minus the MPAA-induced cuts which bowdlerized much of the brutality from Zarchi’s rape-revenge story.
