Sunday night’s Rammstein show at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre was much anticipated by the city’s — and likely the province’s given the out-of-town element — goth, industrial, rock and metal community. So much so that the entire venue was sold out. Superlatives fail to capture the scale of the production — which included, of course, tons of pyro, costume changes, props and much abuse of keyboardist Flake — so let’s show you a little of what went on. While security was strict about filming, we managed to capture a portion of the band’s performance of “Haifisch,” specifically the middle section where Flake wades out into the crowd on a raft.

Opening act Combichrist, who have added a tall, thin guitarist since their last appearance in Toronto last fall, put on a similarly spectacular show, even if they didn’t have as extensive a light show as they did during their headlining run. Here is the band performing “Follow the Trail of Blood” before security rushes in to shout “No filming!”

Andy LaPlegua brings his aggro-electric act Combichrist to Toronto this weekend (May 8) in a sure-to-be-killer show opening for Rammstein at the Air Canada Centre. (For anyone unfamiliar with the band’s aggressively entertaining live act, check out this DLB-shot footage of \”Fuck That Shit\”  from their Toronto show this past fall.

Combichrist's Andy LaPlegua

Is Combichrist’s Andy LaPlegua the new Trent Reznor? With the Nine Inch Nails mastermind busy scoring A-list Hollywood films (The Social Network) and making music with his (now pregnant) wife (How To Destroy Angels) instead of packing stadiums full of freaks and rivetheads, there’s a space in the underground marketplace for a charismatic and energetic performer like LaPlegua.

German rock stars will fire up the City of Rock

Rammstein at Rock in Rio-Lisboa 2010

Lisbon, February 17th 2010 – The organization of Rock in Rio-Lisbon has just confirmed Rammstein’s upcoming appearance at the largest music and entertainment event of the world. The internationally most successful German band of today will fire-up the World Stage on a day dedicated to heavy rock fans.

Formed in Berlin in 1994, two–time Grammy nominee Rammstein has managed what few German bands can claim to have done: be successful outside of the country singing in German! The live concerts, which join a strong theatrical component to impressive visual and pyrotechnic effects, making their performances captivating for everyone, is one of the explanations for their worldwide success.

The industrial rock band launched their first album “Herzeleid” in 1995, followed by “Sehnsucht” (1997), the project which launched them internationally, “Mutter” (2001), “Reise, Reise” (2004) and “Rosenrot” (2005).

After selling out at Pavilhão Atlântico, Rammstein returns to Portugal to present “Liebe Ist Für Alle Da”, the sixth studio album, no. 1 in Germany among others and in multiple top-10 charts across Europe. Rammstein consider this album to be a genuine product of democracy in the band, where all points of views and ideas are considered until they fit the very personal style that fans recognize.

The public can expect high energy levels at the World Stage, knowing Rammstein’s reputation as masters of live orchestrated chaos!

Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (Vagrant/Universal)

The German industrial rock powerhouse roars back to life four years after the somewhat underwhelming Rosenrot. Liebe Ist Für Alle Da (trans: “Love Is There For Everyone”) is a solidly built engine of tight guitar riffs, Wagnerian keyboards and singer Till Lindemann. The controversial lead track ‘Pussy’ is getting all the attention, but it’s not the best song on the album.

Top tracks: B———–, Liebe Ist Für Alle Da, Rammlied
