SINISTER CINEMA: “MOTHER’S DAY” PLAYS RUE MORGUE’S CINEMACABRE TONIGHT!

Rue Morgue Magazine‘s monthly movie night happens again this evening, with the Charles Kaufman camp classic Mother’s Day (1980) screening at 9:30 at The Bloor Cinema. Mother’s Day, the tale of two backwoods brothers who torment a trio of city girls at the behest of their momma, was reviled in its time for its exploitative nudity and violence, and we can’t blame the protestors as the sleaze is pretty thick. Feel free to bring your own bar of soap.

MORBID MOVIES: “HOLOCAUST 2000” SCREENS TONIGHT IN TORONTO

Rue Morgue Magazine‘s monthly Cinemacabre screenings return to Toronto’s Bloor Theatre tonight with 1977’s Holocaust 2000. The mag describes it as an “over the top 1977 Omen rip-off [which] stars Kirk Douglas as a businessman trying to build a nuclear power plant in the Middle East. As everyone opposing the plan meets a grisly end, he suspects that his son is really the Anti-Christ trying to bring on doomsday! Tense, gory and featuring a score by Ennio Morricone, HOLOCAUST 2000 is evil… Italian-style.”

We’ll be there!

So that’s what Roger Corman’s been doing with himself. The veteran producer is responsible for Sharktopus, a high-concept monster mash made for the SyFy TV channel. Rue Morgue Magazine will be hosting its Toronto premiere at The Bloor Theatre tomorrow (Nov. 18) at 9:30 pm.

“Just when you thought it was safe to go near the water, along comes producer Roger Corman’s SHARKTOPUS! Half-shark, half-octopus, all SHARKTOPUS, the military’s ultimate biological weapon is swimming amok, snatching bikini babes off the beach with giant CGI tentacles! Eric freakin’ Roberts plays the beast’s creator and Corman himself makes a cameo. Up from the depths and on the big screen, it’s SHARKTOPUS!”

The DLB is always excited to get his copy of the newest Rue Morgue Magazine, but the upcoming November issue is extra special because I penned the feature on the upcoming movie Monsters which comes out in Canada Nov. 12. It’s a very interesting little film (little as in a budget of about $10,000) which is going to surprise and enrage a lot of horror  fans.

Here’s a rundown of what else we can expect…
